Prospective Adoptive Parents

I will strategize with you to meet you specific concerns and hopes.

Adoption Options - By selecting an adoption path that most fits your vision, you will become parents. I have represented many adoptive parents who began their adoption experience feeling hopeless and worn, became filled with optimism during adoption plans, and became joyfully optimistic when they became parents. I will provide you with information of the legally safe adoption paths available to you. You will select the adoption process that meets your individual concerns….

I guide my clients in their efforts to become parents through independent or agency domestic interstate adoptions, always keeping their individual concerns and opinions a priority.

Private networking and the adoption process – I will guide you through your options to create an adoption that best suits your vision. I guide my clients through connecting with potential birth parents throughout the country, creating and coordinating "semi-open", "open", or "closed" adoptions with birth parents and placements.

I promote my clients' concerns to: keep financial costs within tolerable ranges; obtain prenatal care records, the birth parents' family social and medical information, and baby's hospital records; mediate their relationships with birthparents; while legally coordinating interstate and intrastate adoptions.

Having communicated with over 2,000 potential birth parents, I am skilled in screening birth parents and assessing safety and risk features for my clients. I continue corresponding with the birthparents and their attorneys or the agencies to monitor the safety of the adoption plan. I remain very accessible to my clients.

Adoption plans and placements – I will coordinate the adoption plans as independent or identified agency adoptions, based upon the individual situation, relevant laws, and your concerns regarding costs and fees and termination of the birth parents’ parental rights. You will receive prenatal care records, as long as the birth mother is 8 months or less pregnant. Your concerns regarding hospital and post-placement relationship will be addressed. The baby you are adopting will be placed directly from the hospital into your care.

I will specifically inform you of how each birth parent’s rights will end depending on the specific situation and whether you are finalizing your adoption in New Jersey, New York, or possibly another state that allows non-residents to finalize the adoption if baby or birth mother resides there. Birth parents rights can typically end 1 day to one month following baby’s birth depending on state’s laws and how this adoption is legally coordinated by me. You will have your choices thoroughly explained.

Interstate Compact – This law only applies if baby is born outside your state of residence. Most often, you will care for your baby in the birth state for 5 – 10 days following birth date before you and baby can return home. You could nave up to a three week stay if you baby is born in one of a few states. I will inform you of specific time frames for your adoption.

Finalization Court Proceedings – Your case will be efficiently processed in New York or New Jersey courts, due to my years of experience. In certain adoption plans, you may finalize in baby’s birth state by my co-counsel. Typically, .the birth parents’ rights were ended months before this final hearing. At the final hearing, you will become legal parents, and baby’s name will change to name you selected. A new birth certificate and a social security card will be issued after this hearing. I refer you to the Court Proceedings page for more details. I welcome your questions.
